The organization’s former name was ASSOCIATION OF DOST SCHOLARS - DHVSU CHAPTER. It was founded in 2016 as the local chapter of the national DOST Scholars’ Association to unify grantees within the university and ensure compliance with scholarship requirements. In its early years, the organization focused on peer support through examination volunteering, orientations, and academic guidance, helping scholars both on and off campus maintain strong performance. Upon more stabilization of the organization, it expanded into outreach projects, science advocacy, and collaborations with other student organizations, strengthening its role in both campus and community life.
In the academic year 2025–2026, the scholar group successfully rebranded itself under the name “ALAB,” meaning flame in Filipino, a powerful symbol of the scholars’ burning passion for knowledge, service, and innovation. Its emblem embodies the values and mission of its scholars through symbolic elements. Reflecting the Department of Science and Technology’s palette, it was also inspired by the Philippine flag to signify hope, peace, and the mantra ‘Iskolar Para sa Bayan’. At the center, a human figure within the flame represents the transformative journey of scholars, while the flame itself—spelling out “ALAB”—symbolizes passion, resilience, and the drive to lead and serve. The atom highlights the core values of professional excellence, social responsibility, and servant leadership, which are the core values of DOST-SEI. Beneath it, the book silhouette signifies knowledge, continuous learning, and academic excellence, and the gear element underscores the commitment of both DOST and the University to innovation, progress, and education.
In recent years, the group has embraced the use of digital platforms, particularly Facebook, to connect members, announce assemblies, and share timely motivational content. Commencing its decade of founding, ALAB-DOST Pampanga State U now started to hold annual general assemblies, leadership training, and ensured to continue its community engagement programs, embodying discipline, service, and unity while fostering the S&T pride and contributing to national patriotic development.
